Collection: Pasture-Raised Lamb
Along with the apple and pear trees, sheep and lambs are the centrepiece of our farm. Ultimately, the sheep will serve as the mowers of the orchard understory to help the trees in the fight against the grass while cycling nutrients to improve our soil health.
Unlike more intensive livestock operations, our sheep are not high-producing lamb growers. Our ewes (female sheep) are bred once annually in December for May lambing. The ewes lamb on pasture and are extremely maternal, getting their lambs up and nursing within 30 minutes. The ewes and lambs stay on pasture all spring, summer, and fall, switching to hay and grain in the farmyard during the winter months.
When they've reached finished weight, our lambs are butchered at a local abattoir - a crucial ingredient in bringing Ontario lamb to your table.
